Fabulous Freebie Finds Friday! #1

I've got another new weekly series for you, Fabulous Freebie Finds Friday! Those F words just kept coming. lol. So for this series I'll be sharing with you some of the great freebies and/or free printables I've come across online.

This week, I've got some great Easter Banners for you guys! The first is a little smaller and was just perfect to hang on my new mirror! I didn't add much of anything in the way of embellishments. I just cut them out, punched some holes and strung them together on my new purple bakers' twine. I just love it! Every time I walk down the stairs into my living room it catches my eye and fills me with a bit of spring joy.

The next Banner is a little larger. I hung it on my curtain over my sliding glass door in our dining room. I added a tiny bit of pale gold glitter to just the side edges to give it a little something. I love the font and how it looks hand drawn. The patterns on each flag are just adorable. I used three strands of bakers' twine (green, pink and purple) to string this one up. I knotted the end around some ornament hooks and just hooked it to the large grommets along the top of my curtains.

If you decide to use these, I'd love to see pics! Also, be sure to thank the wonderful bloggers who made them for us!

Thrifty Thursday #1: Dollar Store Mirror

DISCLAIMER: I have a dangerous addiction to Dollar Tree and Pinterest is not helping the situation.

I've decided to start a new weekly blog series called Thrifty Thursday! Each week, (or the ones when I have time/motivation) on Thursdays, I will share a new frugal idea or craft!

This week I want to show you my new mirror! We rent our town home and the landlord left the mount for a flat screen tv on the wall above our fireplace. I would love to throw the TV up there to save some floor space but the dear hubby just doesn't want to. I needed something to put up above the fireplace. I wanted a big mirror but I didn't want to spend big money. I saw this brilliant idea on pinterest yesterday and thought it was just perfect! So last night, I got to work.

Right after work I headed to the Dollar Tree. I picked up 9 black, plastic framed, plexi-glass mirrors (note: these are great for letting babies look at their reflections in because they're shatter proof!).

Then I pulled out and warmed up my trusty hot glue gun. I probably would have used some e-6000 had I had it on hand (I really should). Then I laid the frames out of my table and just glued the edges together. I had to be careful to lift the whole thing occasionally to keep from gluing it to the table.

Once I had all 9 of them glued together I flipped it over and grabbed some scrap pieces of wood (a ruler or paint stirrer would work great) and I glued them to the back of the two seams running lengthwise (the direction I would be stranding it) to add stability. This last step might not had been needed had I used a sturdier glue. Then I took it downstairs and set it on my mantle. Ta Da!

Fortune

The Hubby works late on Thursdays. He leaves me stranded at home without the car until at least 10pm. Since we procrastinated grocery shopping last night and had "nothing to eat." Tonight, I decided to order some Chinese food! After eater too much fried rice and wantons, I got into the fortune cookies. Then I decided to take some pictures of them, because pretty much all things asian are adorable... right? (never-mind the true origin of the fortune cookie... shhhh!)

This is the second time I've gotten this exact fortune... hint?

I just love everything about this

My Little Sister

So my sister is home from her freshman year of college on spring break. We decided to get together for a little photo shoot last night. It was mostly just us goofing around as sisters. Definitely not a professional shoot by any means but we had fun. Unfortunately, It was my first practice shoot with my new lens. I learned that just because the lens CAN go to f/1.8 doesn't mean it always should. A lot of my pictures were too full of motion blur because of the slower shutter speed and my lack of a steady hand. Despite the following pictures having plenty of technical flaws, I really love them! I think they capture my sister pretty well.
I love the Salt Lake Valley in the background on this shot!
