Pumpkin Carving with Jaiden!

Holidays just don't seem as fun and magical without children to get excited over them but Jeff has put his foot down on the baby thing so it'll be a while until I have my own. Last night I wanted to carve my pumpkin for Halloween.
I borrowed my god daughter, Jaiden and we had a great time! She is 4 years old and had never even seen inside a pumpkin yet so it was especially fun. Since she's so young, I didn't want to just give her a knife. I cut open the top of the pumpkin (with my jigsaw, best idea EVER) and instructed her on pulling out the "guts." At first she was very adamant about not using her hands because it was "gross and sticky" but by the end she really didn't care. She had fun feeding some of the guts to Watson (pumpkin is good for puppies tummys) who was sick from  getting into the garbage the night before.
While we gutted our pumpkins I gave her a paper and pen and let her draw the face she wanted on her pumpkin. She wanted two so we put one on each side. She wanted me to carve mine first so I free handed a simple face into my little home grown, green pumpkin using a jigsaw. It cut the time down to almost nothing! I will never buy a carving kit again! I lit a candle and turned off the lights so she could get the full effect. Then we moved onto hers.
I used her drawings as templates and followed them as accurately as possible. I think I did pretty good. As we were looking at them in the dark with candles inside she informed that hers was the boyfriend and mine was the girlfriend... Where she comes up with these ideas, I have no clue but man, she's a funny girl.
We took some pictures of her with her first jack-o-lantern and, in turn, she wanted to take mine. I showed her how to use my camera on my phone and set her loose. She got a couple pictures of me, the dog, even Jeff!
Jeff was working late and got home just as we were finishing. He and I were hugging in the kitchen when she came in with the camera and took some pictures exclaiming, "I caught you!" Told you she was funny. Unfortunately I look terrible in all the pictures of both of us.
What fun things are you guys doing for Halloween this year?

Tasty Tuesday {3} ~ My To Do List

We're going out of town tomorrow so the short week has been uber busy. It's been a stir fry and hamburger helper kind of week. No fun recipes here.
I decided instead of just leaving you hanging I would share some of my favorite recipes I've found on pinterest that I would like to try out in the near future.

What I Love Wednesday #9

lollipops

This week I'm LOVING my new Halloween banner! You can download the free printable Here. I printed mine off on cradstock, taped it to string and added glitter to help it really pop. My craftroom is a mess with glitter but it was soooo worth it!
